Dental Implants in Marion

Losing a tooth is rarely something you plan for. Sometimes it’s sudden: an accident, an extraction that couldn’t be avoided. Other times, it’s something that’s happened gradually over time. Either way, it changes how you eat, how you speak, and what you notice when you look in the mirror. Dental implants are a missing tooth solution that addresses the gap at the root level.

HOW IT WORKS
What is a Dental Implant?

Think of a dental implant as a replacement for the root of a missing tooth. It’s a small titanium post that’s placed into the jawbone, where it gradually integrates with the surrounding bone over a period of months. Once it’s stable, a custom-made crown is attached on top to complete the restoration.
Implants can be used to replace a single missing tooth, multiple teeth, or can support a full arch. We’re happy to talk through all of this at your consultation.
Indications: Individuals who have one or more missing teeth, a fully developed jawbone, good general oral health, and sufficient bone in the jaw (or who are candidates for a bone graft) are usually suitable for dental implants.

Dental Implants can be placed in three different ways:

- Immediate Implant Placement: The implant is placed immediately after tooth removal.
- Immediate Delayed Implant Placement: The implant is placed a few weeks to a few months after tooth removal.
- Delayed Implant Placement: The implant is placed in partially or completely healed bone.
Advantages of Dental Implants
Longevity
Dental implants can last between 10 to 30 years, offering a durable solution.
Stable Solution
They provide a stable option for tooth replacement, compared to dentures and bridges.
Natural Appearance
The crown affixed to the implant closely mimics the look and function of natural teeth.
Preserves Adjacent Teeth
Unlike traditional crowns and bridges, dental implants do not require the trimming of adjacent teeth as they are independent and stand-alone.
Enhanced Functionality
Implants improve chewing and speech, functioning like natural teeth due to their secure placement in the jawbone, ensuring comfort and proper function.
Bone Health Maintenance
They help maintain bone levels at the site of the missing tooth, preventing bone loss.
Ease of Maintenance
Implants allow for easier access between teeth, facilitating regular flossing and the maintenance of good gum health. Implants supported dentures provide increased comfort and improved chewing ability.

THE PROCEDURE
The Stages of Implant Teeth Treatment
Every implant case is different, but the general process of implant treatment at Delicate Dentistry follows these stages:
- Consultation and assessment: Dr Asha will examine your teeth and gums, review your CBCT scan to assess bone volume and anatomy, and discuss your treatment options, timeline, and costs in detail.
- Preparatory treatment: If bone or gum grafting is needed, this is completed first and allowed to heal before implant placement proceeds.
- Implant placement: The titanium implant is surgically placed into the jawbone under local anaesthetic and left to integrate with the surrounding bone during a healing period.
- Crown placement: Once the implant has integrated, a custom-made crown is attached to complete the restoration.
- Ongoing care: Your implant and crown are maintained the same way as natural teeth, with regular check-ups and cleans at our Marion clinic.
Dr Asha carries out the full scope of implant treatment in-house — including bone and gum grafting where needed — which means fewer referrals and a consistent standard of care from your first assessment through to your final crown. She uses CBCT imaging at the assessment stage to understand your anatomy in detail before any treatment is planned.

FAQs
The longevity of a dental implant depends on a number of factors, including oral hygiene, lifestyle habits, bone density, and how well the implant integrates. The implant itself is made from titanium, which is highly durable and biocompatible. The crown attached on top may require replacement over time due to normal wear.
Recovery varies depending on the complexity of the procedure, your overall health, and whether grafting was involved. Some swelling and discomfort in the days following surgery is common, and your aftercare instructions will include guidance on pain management.
Implant treatment is carried out in stages. The implant itself is surgically placed into the jawbone under local anaesthetic and left to integrate with the surrounding bone over a healing period. Once integration is confirmed, a custom-made crown is attached to complete the restoration. Where bone or gum grafting is required, this is carried out before implant placement.
Dental implants are designed to be a long-term tooth replacement option. Unlike removable dentures, the implant is anchored in the jawbone.
